Former police officer to lead cyber-crime initiative
A former Toronto police officer renowned for his dogged pursuit of Internet pedophiles has been named director of a new cyber-crime research centre focused on better protecting people online. Oshawa university research centre to tackle online crime
Ontario's newest university is fighting online crime. The University of Ontario Institute of Technology in Oshawa has announced plans to open a unique Centre for Cybercrime Research this fall, bringing together experts from different fields to look at ways to combat identity theft, e-theft, cyberbullying and child exploitation on the Internet. Microsoft arms Australian Federal Police with cyber weapons
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) will receive a technology boost in the fight against child predators and paedophiles with the launch of an online tracking system, developed and donated by Microsoft. Dubbed the Child Exploitation Tracking System (CETS), the software tool enables the AFP to work with law enforcement agencies throughout Australia and around the world to share and track information relating to online child exploitation and abuse. More countries should use Canadian-made child porn tracker, Microsoft says
Countries around the world should take greater advantage of a tool designed to help battle online child pornography, a Microsoft official said Thursday. The Child Exploitation Tracking System, which enables global police agencies to share information for tracking online child predators based on legal agreements in place, was developed several years ago by Microsoft Canada, Canadian authorities and international law enforcement officials. Police: More than 100 arrested worldwide in international internet pedophile probe
Investigators have arrested more than 100 pedophiles worldwide since Canadian police began monitoring an Internet chat room two years ago used by pedophiles who streamed live videos of children being raped. Toronto Police Sgt. Paul Krawczyk said Wednesday he has been involved in 82 arrests globally and says the total number is well over 100. Read more here.
